What Your Child Is Learning in Kindergarten
Communication & Early Literacy
Through shared stories, conversations, songs, rhymes and imaginative play, children develop their vocabulary, verbal communication and listening skills. We encourage an interest in books, letters and sounds while helping children build the foundations for reading, writing and expressing their ideas with confidence.
Mathematical Thinking, Science & STEM
Through hands-on activities, experiments, building and problem-solving, children explore early maths, science, technology and engineering concepts. From counting and recognising patterns to testing ideas, investigating how things work and experimenting with different materials, children develop curiosity, logical thinking and the confidence to ask questions, explore possibilities and discover new things.
Confidence for School
We support children to develop the confidence, independence and social skills they need for a positive transition to primary school. Through friendships, group experiences, self-care routines and opportunities to persevere with challenges, children learn to communicate their needs, work with others, manage their emotions and approach new experiences with confidence.
Social & Emotional Learning
We help children build meaningful friendships, understand their emotions and develop confidence in themselves and others. Through group play, everyday conversations and supported experiences, children learn to share, take turns, show empathy, solve problems and work through challenges together. These skills help children develop a strong sense of belonging and the emotional readiness they need for school and beyond.
Meet Shayama
Hello, my name is Shayama. I have been working in the early childhood education industry for 7 years. My passion lies in witnessing children grow, develop, and achieve their milestones. I find joy in listening to children’s stories and laughter, as seeing them smile truly brightens a teacher’s day.
Throughout my career, I have held various roles and have completed both my Diploma and Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. I take pride in creating a nurturing and welcoming environment for children, where they can feel safe and supported in their learning journey.
I am excited to continue making a positive impact on the lives of children and look forward to seeing their smiles each day.
Learning Across the Kindergarten Year
Every term brings new discoveries, exciting experiences and opportunities for children to learn, grow and build confidence. Our kindergarten program follows children’s interests while supporting their development across communication, early literacy, numeracy, science, social skills and emotional wellbeing.
Term One – Building Relationships & Belonging
We begin the year by building trusting relationships with children and families, helping every child feel safe, welcomed and part of our kindergarten community. Through play, group experiences and everyday conversations, we explore kindness, respect, honesty and friendship.
Children discover colours, seasons, weather, letters, sounds and numbers through fun, hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity and a love of learning.
Term Two – Exploring & Discovering
Children investigate shapes, learn about animals and explore the world around them through practical, hands-on experiences. Cooking, creative activities, building and problem-solving encourage curiosity while developing fine motor skills and early mathematical and scientific thinking.
We also introduce opportunities for children to recognise and practise writing their names, building confidence with early literacy skills and developing independence in preparation for school.
Term Three – Growing Knowledge & Understanding
As children’s confidence grows, we explore numbers, living and non-living things, countries and continents, and the many questions children have about the world around them. Through experiments, discussions, creative experiences and play, children develop early literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills. Letter recognition, sounds and name tracing are incorporated into meaningful activities that strengthen communication, concentration and fine motor development.
Term Four – Preparing for School & Celebrating Growth
As children prepare for their next big adventure, we focus on developing the confidence, independence and practical skills that support a positive transition to primary school.
We explore the human body, healthy lifestyles and ways to care for ourselves. Experiences such as Lunch Box Week encourage children to practise independence, manage their belongings and learn about foods that help their bodies grow.
Where opportunities are available, school visits help children become familiar with their new learning environment. We also make time for conversations about starting school, giving children the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions and feel supported as they prepare for this exciting change.
We finish the year by celebrating graduation, recognising each child’s achievements, friendships and growth. It is a special milestone for children, families and educators, and we feel privileged to be part of each child’s early learning journey.
Questions About Our Kindergarten Program
Is Free Kinder available?
Yes! Eligible children enrolled in our funded three- and four-year-old kindergarten programs can receive the Victorian Government’s Free Kinder fee offset.
As we offer kindergarten within our long day care service, the funding is applied as a reduction to your childcare fees, rather than making your child’s entire day of care free.
Your Child Care Subsidy (CCS), if applicable, is applied first, followed by the Free Kinder offset.
The amount deducted depends on your child’s eligibility and funded kindergarten hours. The offset is applied directly to your fees, so there’s no need to claim it back.

Do you offer three- and four-year-old kindergarten?
Absolutely! Our Kookaburra Kindergarten program supports children through their three- and four-year-old kindergarten years, helping them build the skills, confidence and independence they need for their next learning adventure. Our program is led by a qualified early childhood teacher and combines purposeful, play-based learning with experiences that follow children’s interests and developmental needs.
How do you prepare children for school?
We help children develop the skills and confidence they need for a positive start to primary school. Through purposeful play, group experiences and everyday routines, children build communication skills, early literacy and numeracy, independence, problem-solving abilities and positive relationships. We also support their social and emotional wellbeing, helping them feel confident, capable and excited about the next chapter of their learning journey.
